Book Reviews
  • This beautifully illustrated book tells the story of a young Pablo Picasso and the stray cat he adopted. The story begins when Picasso is in his "Blue Period" and is literally a "starving artist". Minou, his cat, saves the day by bringing home sausages from a group of circus performers who have befriended him. Picasso starts making more colorful paintings (the Rose Period) and his work begins to sell. This is a wonderful, accessible book that introduces young children to
Picasso.  The illustrations are captivating which makes it fun for adults, as well. -Kristen Chatnani mother of Josh 15 yrs, Nisha 5 yrs & Sanjay 17 mo

  • Baya Baya Lulla-by-a by Megan McDonald, illustrated by VeraRosenberry
A mother in India rocks her 'choti ladki' (little girl) to sleep with a beautiful, rhythmic lullaby. The bright, exotic illustrations add to the beauty of this gentle bedtime story. This book would make a lovely gift for a new baby and Mom. -Kristen Chatnani mother of Josh 15 yrs, Nisha 5 yrs & Sanjay 17 mo

  • Janet Evanovich - 'The Plum Series', First one being 'One for the Money', I just read 'Eleven on Top'.  I love these books, they are a little bit of romance, mostly mystery, and a lot of humor!!  You won't stop laughing through them all, the characters are great and the adventures that Stephanie Plum go through are outrageous.  You have got to read them!  They have them all at the library, and they are very fast reads.  So if you need a little humor and a quick book to read check out The Plum Series.  Janet Evanovich also has another series ' The Full Series"  They aren't quite as funny, but they are good as well.  - Jenny Parks, mother of Sean 5 yrs & Mike 4 yrs

  • "I'll Never Have Sex With You Again" by Larry Bleidner and Irene Zutell. This is a lighthearted and hilarious book of labor and delivery stories. It is good to read at the beginning of pregnancy, not the end! It really helped to laugh about something that can be scary and painful. I would highly recommend it. -Carrie Hansen, mother of Helen, 2 and Walter, 4 months

  • "Babywise" byGary Ezzo and Robert Bucknam. This is an informative book about how to get your baby to sleep through the night. It has lots of good ideas, like how important routines are for babies, and how they need to eat at fairly regular intervals.  I followed many of the guidelines in the book and both my babies slept through the night at 8 weeks. It is fairly strict on some things, such as sleep aides, though. They say you shouldn't rock or nurse your baby to sleep, or use music, stuffed animals, etc. I found that to be completely unrealistic! The theory sounds good on paper but just letting a two month old cry himself to sleep is a bit too cruel for me. I would recommend this book, but with any advise, you need to do what feels right for your family, and not just do something because it is written in a book. -Carrie Hansen, mother of Helen, 2 and Walter, 4 months
