Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
The Mothers’ Center of Fort Collins (MCFC) does not have it’s own building. Our events occur in members’ homes, parks, or other public venues.
Where do events take place?
Babysitting Co-op and Playgroups meet in members’ homes or public play areas. Most activities are free for MCFC kids and you can usually invite other friends too. The location of an event will always be listed on Big Tent.
What is Big Tent?
Big Tent is our cool organizational tool for membership. The MCFC Big Tent page has an up-to-date calendar of all our activities. Only members are allowed access to calendar of events and discussion forum. Check out our Big Tent page now: https://www.bigtent.com/groups/mcfc.
How do I become a member?
We’re always open to new members! Anyone can attend our weekly playdates on Wednesday mornings to get to know us. Members pay a low annual fee ($30) and are invited to help plan or host events. Simply go to our Big Tent page and sign up: https://www.bigtent.com/groups/mcfc
If cost is a hurdle for you, please contact us at: fcmotherscenter@yahoo.com
What are the committees about?
Mothers’ Center is organized into committees that deal with various aspects of operation. The Steering Committee, the principal guiding force of Mothers’ Center, is comprised of representatives from each committee and any interested parties. Committees include Finance, Fundraising, Membership, Programming, and Public Relations. Volunteers are always welcome and wanted in all of these groups.
Is it ok for my child(ren) to attend events?
Children are welcome at our events, except for adult evening events. In fact, many of our activities are specifically designed for parents and children to attend together. We host monthly weekend socials for the whole family in addition to our weekday events.
HOW DOES THE BABYSITTING CO-OP WORK?
The MCFC Babysitting Co-op is a great way for your children to make friends while you enjoy date nights or some much-needed downtime at home. You must be an MCFC member in good-standing to participate in the co-op. Members receive tokens for each child to use at drop-offs, which rotate at different homes. You earn tokens by hosting drop-offs For more information, please contact Co-op organizer Elizabeth Sink, elizabethsink@gmail.com.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IN MCFC?
Volunteer to be on one of our committees, start attending an event, or simply become a member and keep updated on our great activities. Click on the Activities button for more information.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HOST AN EVENT?
The hostess or contact for each event coordinates the logistics of the event. This includes choosing a location and providing refreshments if you choose. For larger events and fundraisers the hostess is in charge of invitations and registration. The hostess would also coordinate with the PR Committee for any advertising or media outreach.
Hosting an event is a good way for new members to make connections with other moms.
HOW DOES THE MOTHERS' CENTER SUPPORT ITSELF ANYWAY?
We are a volunteer organization. Most of our operational funds come from membership fees, fundraising, grants, and some activity fees.
